Hawks up at first break

That was a good quarter from Hawthorn, who kicked four goals to one to take a handy three-goal lead into the first change of the game.

Karl Amon leads the disposal count with 10, closely followed by James Sicily with nine and Will Day with eight.

The Lions struggled to create opportunities to goal in that first term, while the Hawks forced them defend. It’ll be interesting to see what they change in the second to try and get some more control of this game.

Hawthorn currently lead in all areas on the stat sheet, including having 17 inside 50s to nine.

It’s a good start for Hawthorn

Oh, Hawthorn fans will be liking this. Or having shades of deja vu when their side was up early last weekend against the Power.

Jack Ginnivan earned himself a free deep in the inside 50 and slotted through the set shot, then Will Day backed it up with another major.

It’s looking good early for Hawthorn, who have given themselves an early three-goal buffer.

Hawks hit the lead

And it’s through 20-year-old Cam Mackenzie, whose goal has given Hawthorn a slim five-point lead.

The Hawks are looking good early and have the Lions ever so slightly on the back foot.

It’s all even stevens in clearances, and the Hawks are only up by one in inside 50s, but they are organising themselves well around the ground and being fierce at the contest and playing with confidence.

Gunston with the first for the Hawks

Jack Gunston has got Hawthorn on the board with their opening goal, and score, of the day. The assist came from Will Day, who found Gunston in the forward 50.

Both sides have been good defensively early, which unfortunately has meant not a lot of goals, but some exciting footy. It’s tough and tight out there.

Midway through the opening quarter, we’ve got just one goal a piece.

Ryan kicks things off

Brandon Ryan has kicked things off at Marvel with the opening goal for the game in his first match for the Lions.

A dream start at Brisbane for the former Hawk.

We’re off

We’re underway at Marvel.

Will Hawthorn get one back after their one-point loss to Yartapuulti last week or will Brisbane keep their season rolling?

No late changes

There are no late changes for either side today with Luke Breust as the Hawks sub and Harry Sharp as Brisbane’s.

Who wins today?

Who do you have taking home the four points today (unless, of course, it’s another draw)?

Hawthorn had that heartbreaking – and frustrating for Hawks fans- one-point loss to Yartapuulti last week after they parked the bus, so to speak, in the final quarter. They’ll want to atone for that.

But on the other side, Brisbane have started to kick into gear after a rough start to the season. So, could really go either way.
