VICTORY for Australia’s Matthew Ebden in the men’s doubles!

Ebden and partner Rohan Bopanna of India are in the final after a gutsy performance in a tight semi-final.

For the third straight year at Melbourne Park, there will be at least one Australian in the men’s doubles final.

Ebden and Bopanna had the better of the play in the deciding third set, pulling out all the stops in the 10-point tie-breaker.

They were victorious 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7)

It’s raining again at Melbourne Park.

Play has stopped for the moment in the girls’ singles quarter-finals clash between Australian Emerson Jones and Japan’s Sara Saito on court 3.

Australia’s Matthew Ebden and partner Rohan Bopanna, of India, are in the fight of their lives in the men’s doubles semi-final on centre court.

Taking on Czech Tomas Machac and China’s Zhizhen Zhang, Ebden and Bopanna failed to close out the match deep in the third set.

First Bopanna dropped serve when they were serving for the match at 5-4. Then, in the next game, they didn’t convert one of their three match points.

It’s now on level pegging in the third set, 6-3, 3-6, 5-5.

Ebden and Bopanna won the opening set.

Novak Djokovic takes on Jannik Sinnner while Alexander Zverev will do battle with Daniil Medvedev on Rod Laver Arena tomorrow.

The Australian Open title dream is over for one half of Australia’s brother-sister act.

Hayden Jones, 17 has lost his quarter-final to tall Czech Jan Kumstat, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-5.

Jones had some chances to break back in the final game, but Kumstat’s big serve – he hit 13 aces – helped him escape.

Australia’s hopes now rest with Jones’ 15-year-old sister, Emerson, who faces No.2 seed Sara Saito, of Japan, next on the same court.

The schedule of play for tomorrow at the Australian Open has just been released.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will take to Rod Laver Arena in the afternoon session to do battle with Italian Jannik Sinner.

And in the evening session, world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev takes on Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

It’s not often Djoker plays in the afternoon on centre court at Melbourne Park, but he’s had one experience of it under the blazing sun already.

A mild top of 21 degrees is forecast for Melbourne tomorrow, so conditions will be better for our semi-finalists.

The men’s doubles semi-final is fluctuating big time.

Now it’s Australia’s Matthew Ebden and India’s Rohan Bopanna who have the momentum in the third set.
