Toddler allegedly taken in Coffs Harbour located in Tenterfield area, say police

A two-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted from Coffs Harbour on Friday afternoon has been located in the Tenterfield area, police said early on Saturday morning.

NSW Police had issued an urgent amber alert on Friday evening after the toddler was allegedly taken by a man and a woman, who had also allegedly assaulted the child’s grandmother during an incident on the state’s North Coast.

Police were alerted to the incident on Little Street in Coffs Harbour just after 2pm on Friday.

In a statement just after midnight, they said the child had been located around 11.30pm and that a 35-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were in police custody.

Police had said earlier that the boy had been allegedly taken by a man and a woman who had reportedly driven off in a black 1996 Volkswagen Golf sedan with Victorian registration.

In a statement issued at 4.30pm, NSW Police had said finding the boy was a matter of “extreme urgency”. Another alert was issued just after 7.30pm, saying police were still searching for the boy.
