Man charged after allegedly reversing Audi into police following pursuit

A 33-year-old learner driver has been charged after allegedly reversing an Audi into two police officers on Sydney’s lower north shore following a terminated pursuit.

NSW Police say officers attempted to stop the silver sedan on Ryde Road, Gladesville at about 8.30pm on Saturday.

“A pursuit was initiated after the vehicle failed to stop; however, was terminated due to safety concerns,” police said in a statement on Sunday morning.

The vehicle collided with a Toyota Kluger on Gladesville Road, Hunters Hill before “the driver of the Audi reversed into two approaching officers”, and then crashed into a unit complex, police said.

The two officers – a male constable and a male probationary constable – were transported to hospital, each in a stable condition.

A 33-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gladesville police station, where he was charged with assaulting police in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, hindering or resisting police and intentionally choking a person with recklessness.

He was further charged with not stopping and driving dangerously during a police pursuit, being an unaccompanied learner driver and not displaying “L” plates correctly.

The man was refused police bail and is due to face Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
