Upton to finally make international debut

Dally M player of the year and NRLW grand final star Tamika Upton will finally make her international debut after being selected as the Jillaroos fullback for the upcoming Pacific Championships this month.

The 26-year-old two-time Karyn Murphy medallist was meant to play for Australia at the 2022 World Cup last year in England, but was ruled out with a calf injury.

“It was really hard not to pick the person who was back-to-back Karyn Murphy medallist and Dally M medallist, and had a huge influence on the weekend’s result,” said Jillaroos head coach Brad Donald.

“She’s been picked a number of times before and been unavailable, but hopefully this is the opportunity she’s been looking for.”

Jillaroos team list

Almost no changes for the Jillaroos or the Kiwi Ferns to the teams that were named earlier in the week.

The only change to Brad Donald’s team is on the interchange bench, with Lauren Brown snagging the final spot and Shaylee Bent moving to the reserve spot.

Good evening footy fans, and welcome to our live coverage of the Pacific Championships.

Billie Eder here to take you through all the action tonight, starting with the Jillaroos taking on the Kiwi Ferns at 6:05pm AEDT.

The Jillaroos are favourites to win that match, but they’re up against a stacked Kiwi side with the likes of Raecene McGregor and Mele Hufanga in the team.

The Kangaroos are up second against Samoa, with kick off at 8:10pm AEDT. It hasn’t been totally smooth sailing picking that team (more on that later), but it will still be a cracker of a match.

Strap yourselves in, and enjoy the games.
