‘Waited 10 years for this’: Cripps says win feels unreal
An elated Patrick Cripps after the siren has said they know what they needed to do and they did it.
“We know what we’ve got to do. We practice that so many times. It worked last week. Yeah, just keep the ball in, try and get another one on the ball,” Cripps told Fox.
“I can’t believe it. This is unreal. It’s just a credit the boys — credit to the boys, credit to Melbourne. I love the way they go about it, a fierce contest all night. To win a final, you’ve got to win a few times in the game, Voss says. They came out. You know, we knew they would respond from last week. We fought back. Just an arm wrestle. Special game.
“Waited 10 years for this. Two down, off to Brissie next week now.”
Blues are through to the preliminary finals!
Well, can you believe it? Carlton steal the victory off Melbourne right on the eve of the final siren.
Melbourne’s final series comes to an end – out in straight sets for the second year in a row.
Carlton defeat Melbourne by 2-points, 11.7 (73) to 9.17 (71).

Blues back in front, less than a minute to go!
Wow oh wow!
The Blues are back in front with less than a minute to go. Blake Acres! That’s a moment he won’t forget anytime soon.
Marked it near the top of the goal square, played on and scored.
Carlton lead by 1-point.
Oliver kick touched, less than a goal in it
Clayton Oliver’s kick was looking good but a score review found it touched on the line (and it hit the post).
Another behind was registered moments later as Melbourne keep missing. There’s now five points in it with two minutes to go.
Melbourne lead by 5-points.
Minutes tick down
There’s just over three minutes left, and just three points in it.
The ball spent a bit of time in Carlton’s attacking half without anyone converting, and now it’s looking like it could be Melbourne’s chance to score as Clayton Oliver lines up for a set shot.
Melbourne hold a 3-point lead.
Motlop goal, Blues back within three points
Blues supporters, exhale.
Carlton are back within three points with just over six minutes to go.
The ball spilled from a stoppage, Jesse Motlop got hands to it and scored.
Melbourne lead by 3-points.
Momentum is back with Melbourne
Hoy boy, it is tense at the ‘G.
Max Gawn had the opportunity for a right foot banana to give his side some (I stress, some) breathing room but the ball was thumped into the post. Then Bayley Fritsch had a set shot moments later – it missed.
The door is still open for Carlton here.
There’s just under eight minutes to go and nine points in it. You can almost hear nails being chewed by all 90,000 fans filling the stands.
Melbourne lead by 9-points.
Fritsch puts Demons back in front
Bayley Fritsch puts Melbourne back in front with a crafty goal, while doctors are assessing vision of Jacob Weitering, who stumbled after a knock to the jaw in a tackle.
He’s remaining out on deck for now.
Curnow had a shot, but it was touched on the line.
Melbourne lead by six points
Kossie closes gap, scores level
The scores are level once again. Never mind that previous post about things potentially getting scary for Melbourne.
Kysaiah Pickett has kicked his second goal of the evening from a set shot to close the gap. Melbourne have stopped the Blues getting too much of the momentum.
Meanwhile, David Cuningham has been subbed off and replaced by Oliver Hollands.
Jacob Weitering is looking very wobbly after an accidental arm to the jaw in a tackle. What will Carlton do now they’ve already made their sub?
It’s 59-59: scores level.

Owies puts Blues back in front
Well, it’s two goals in two minutes for the Blues, thanks to Sam Walsh and Matthew Owies.
They are winning it at the source and moving it quickly to try and catch the Melbourne defence off guard.
The Blues have taken back the momentum and things could get scary for Melbourne if they keep going like this in this final term.
Carlton lead by 6-points.
